Regular Season Round 21: Al Riyadi - Astana 106-57

The biggest surprise took place in Beirut where host LebaneseAl Riyadi (5-2) crushed league's leader Kazakhstan Astana (5-2) 106-57 on Wednesday evening. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Astana. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Al Riyadi dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Astana 's 26 and made 21-of-27 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Astana 44-28 including a 33-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Al Riyadi looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Perrin Buford (198-1994, college: MTSU, agency: Pensack Sports) who scored 22 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. Forward Hayk Gyokchyan (203-1990, college: F&M) chipped in a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds. Five Al Riyadi players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was center Robert Pan (202-1995) who recorded 15 points and American point guard EJ Day (180-1999, college: Lasell) added 6 points and 6 rebounds respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending Lebanese champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with defeated Astana.
